Meta acquired Conductor, the AI coding startup behind a multi-agent orchestration platform for developers, according to reporting published on November 4 and 5, 2026. The deal comes as Conductor begins winding down Conductor Cloud, its hosted service for running coding agents in isolated workspaces, while the company says it will build a new interface inside Meta.
What did Meta buy?
Meta acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup whose software lets developers coordinate multiple coding agents across isolated or parallel workspaces. TechCrunch reported the acquisition on November 4, 2026, and Meta provided no deal terms or public integration details.
Conductor’s core pitch is orchestration rather than a single model. The platform is designed to let engineers spin up software projects with separate workspaces, branches, file structures, terminals, diff views and review paths, so multiple agents can work in parallel without stepping on each other. Reporting on the deal said Conductor supports agents from Anthropic’s Claude Code, OpenAI’s Codex, Cursor and OpenCode, giving users a way to run different coding systems inside one workflow.
A Meta spokesperson told The Register the acquisition would strengthen Meta's developer-oriented AI capabilities, but the company did not elaborate further.
Why does Conductor matter to Meta’s AI push?
Meta also has its own coding-agent effort: TechCrunch reported that Meta launched Muse Code in August 2026 and said the service had surpassed 10 million users. In practical terms, Conductor’s product focuses on orchestrating multiple agents across separate workspaces.
That product approach matters because Conductor was built around multi-agent software development. TechCrunch described Conductor as a way for users to deploy multiple agents into parallel workspaces and work on separate, compartmentalized parts of a project in concert.
Conductor was founded in 2024 by CEO Charlie Holtz and CTO Jackson de Campos, according to Silicon Republic. The company said its core platform launched in July 2025 and later raised $22 million in Series A funding from Spark and Matrix in March.
What happens to Conductor Cloud now?
Conductor is winding down its hosted Conductor Cloud service in stages. The company said the service would become read-only on November 13, 2026, shut down on November 20, 2026, and then begin deleting cloud user data after shutdown.
Yahoo Finance reported that Conductor halted new user registrations and application downloads after the acquisition announcement. It also reported that existing free accounts could no longer upgrade, while current Pro users would retain premium features without charge until the service winds down, and that active subscriptions would be refunded.
The Register reported that the local macOS app was expected to continue operating for several months, with a possible way to transfer Conductor Cloud workspaces to local machines. The outlet also said that new models and critical bug fixes were expected to end in early 2027.
Yahoo Finance reported that Conductor said it had never sold customer data or trained AI models on it. Yahoo Finance also reported that Conductor said all remaining user data would be wiped once local support ends.
What did the founders say about the next product?
Charlie Holtz said the team was joining Meta and planned to build a new interface, with something new expected for users in early 2027. InfoWorld attributed a similar statement to Holtz, saying Conductor would shift toward developing new interfaces inside Meta, but no product specifications were disclosed.
The company has not publicly detailed whether the new interface will be a replacement for Conductor Cloud, a Meta-native product, or an internal tool. For now, the clearest part of the transition is the shutdown schedule for the cloud service and the move of the team itself into Meta.
