Danish legal research startup Pandektes announced a €13.5 million Series A on its blog, with Tech Funding News independently reporting Alstin Capital as lead investor. The Copenhagen-based company said the new funding will help it expand across Europe and North America, grow its team, and make more of its legal infrastructure available through an API.
Pandektes announced a €13.5 million Series A funding round on its company blog, and Tech Funding News reported that Alstin Capital led the round. The Danish legal research startup said the capital will support its plan to build what it calls the world’s largest legal data infrastructure, while expanding beyond its home market.
The company, founded in Copenhagen in 2022 by Casper Laursen and Søren Brokær, said the new money will help it extend across Europe and North America, hire more people, and expose more of its infrastructure to external developers through an API. Tech Funding News reported that the round also included PROfounders, Scale Capital, and several unnamed existing investors.
What does Pandektes do?
Pandektes is building legal data infrastructure for legal research and software development. According to Tech Funding News, the company wants to provide legal information in a consistent format across more countries in Europe and North America to make cross-border research easier. That positioning matters because legal data is often fragmented across jurisdictions, sources, and formats.
The startup also sees its platform as an alternative to incumbent legal information providers. Tech Funding News said Pandektes wants to compete with major established legal research brands and license data to legal AI developers, rather than only serving end users directly. Company CEO Casper Laursen said the next generation of legal products will depend on the underlying data, and that trustworthy legal AI requires data that is structured and optimized for AI systems and agents.
Who backed the round?
Tech Funding News reported that Alstin Capital was the lead investor, with participation from PROfounders, Scale Capital, and existing investors. The publication also said Alstin Capital’s Andreas Schenk described Pandektes as building legal data infrastructure for Europe, and noted that buyers in legal research have historically struggled to switch core systems.
Pandektes’ blog did not name all participants, but it did confirm the financing announcement and the Series A size. The company’s about page says it has raised €17.5 million in total funding, which implies the new round comes on top of prior capital already in place.
Tech Funding News reported that Pandektes had previously raised about €3.9 million, including a February 2025 seed round backed by People Ventures, Interface Capital, and Nordic business angels.
How will Pandektes use the money?
Pandektes said the funding will accelerate its plan to build a large legal data infrastructure, while Tech Funding News reported the company intends to expand in Europe and North America, grow its team, and make more infrastructure available to external developers through an API. The startup also appears to be betting on distribution through software developers as much as through direct sales to law firms.
That API strategy is not risk-free. Tech Funding News said Pandektes has proven it can sell to law firms, but that licensing data to other legal AI developers is the bigger challenge. It also said the API waitlist will be a signal of demand for that licensing model.
Pandektes told Tech Funding News that it now has more than 500 customers and that revenue grew sixfold over the past year. The publication also identified Energinet as one of its customers.
What should founders watch next?
Pandektes is trying to turn legal data into an infrastructure layer for both law firms and legal software builders. Tech Funding News said the company does not view legal AI assistant companies as direct competitors, but instead wants those builders to use its structured data through an API.
The company’s execution over the next year will likely hinge on whether it can expand geographically, keep hiring, and convert developer interest into actual licensing usage. Tech Funding News framed cross-border legal work as a key advantage for the platform, while Laursen said the company’s technology now makes legal information collection and analysis possible at a much larger scale than before.
The startup also has some momentum markers. Tech Funding News reported that, based on LinkedIn posts by Laursen, Pandektes was named Danish Legal Tech Firm of the Year 2026 at Nordic Legal Tech Day in Copenhagen. According to Tech Funding News, Pandektes has around 55 employees.
For context on the scale of the market it is up against, Tech Funding News pointed to incumbent Karnov Group, which it said serves over 400,000 users and has about 1,200 employees across six countries. The publication also reported Karnov’s third-quarter 2025 net sales of 654 million Swedish kronor and organic growth of 3.9%.
